The KwaZulu-Natal Section has since 1919 assisted, and then later on took the lead in providing mountain search and rescue services in the province.
The teams are based in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Zululand, and are highly trained and provide a 24 hour response in conjunction with AEMS, SAPS and SAAF to provide the following services in mountainous areas:
Search for missing persons
Steep slope and cliff rescue
Bringing medical attention to injured persons
If you are interested in joining the rescue team, it is a good idea to familiarize
yourself with the following documents.

Currency rescue standard
In the event of a mountain rescue emergency it is best to try and contact the local KZN Wildlife ranger
in the Drakenberg, and report the matter to them first. If this is not possible or if you are not in the
Drakenberg you must dial 0800 005133 and report that this is a "mountain rescue". The operator will in
turn contact one of the MCSA rescue organisers.
